Sumanasekera
Biography
Sumanasekera was born on August 15, 1952, in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He is the son of S. A. Sumanasekera, a civil servant, and Seelawathi Sumanasekera, a homemaker. Sumanasekera has two sisters and one brother.
Sumanasekera attended Royal College, Colombo, where he excelled in his studies. He went on to study law at the University of Colombo, graduating with honors in 1975.
After graduating from law school, Sumanasekera worked as a legal officer for the Government of Sri Lanka. In 1980, he was appointed as a magistrate. He served as a magistrate for ten years, during which time he gained a reputation for his fairness and impartiality.
In 1990, Sumanasekera was appointed as a judge of the High Court of Sri Lanka. He served as a High Court judge for five years, during which time he presided over a number of high-profile cases.
In 1995, Sumanasekera was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka. He served as a Supreme Court judge for ten years, during which time he wrote a number of important judgments. He retired from the Supreme Court in 2005.

Sumanasekera is married to Dr. Hema Sumanasekera, a medical doctor. They have two children, a son and a daughter.
Sumanasekera is a devout Buddhist. He is also a keen golfer and enjoys reading and writing.
